York 5
Lancaster 31
Lancaster’s Women Rugby 7s A’s recorded a thumping 31-5 victory over York As. Following on from a fantastic XV’s season, which has seen the team gain promotion from the BUCS Northern 3A, Lancaster A’s were looking to add to LUWRUFC’s tally of victories. The girls in red did not disappoint. Fans of the Red Rose had been arriving all morning, and by now a boisterous crowd was in full voice upon 22 Acres – a crowd which included the proud parents of Catriona Hay, sporting red hair and adding their voices to the already loud Lancastrian support.
Lancaster asserted their dominance from the off, with a Player of the Match performance from Jen Lappin, which began with a fantastic solo try under the posts to open Lancaster’s account. This was followed swiftly by further tries from Abie Epstein, as well as crowd favourite Claire Chiu, who left her opposite number for dead as she sprinted in from the halfway line. Claire has been a stalwart member of the club throughout the season, and her score was reminiscent of so many she has ran in across the last few months.
Despite a token try at the death from York, Lancaster managed to run in two more tries in the second half; through Liv Servon, and a second score for Abie Epstein. It was a phenomenal display from Lancaster’s Rugby Women, who could now focus on their XV’s game on the Saturday.
